Misa Thai is a director in the Commercial practice at Andersen, specializing in federal and state research tax credits. With more than 20 years of experience in tax consulting and public accounting, she advises public, middle-market, and emerging growth companies on research tax credit opportunities. Misa leads research credit studies and qualified research expense analyses under IRC Sections 41 and 174 for clients across a variety of industries, including technology, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, engineering, and construction.
Misa has extensive experience managing research tax credit engagements, including supporting clients through IRS examinations, responding to Information Document Requests (IDRs), and advising on audit and financial reporting matters related to research tax credits. She also assists start-up and emerging companies with research payroll tax credits and is recognized for her strong technical knowledge, project management, and practical approach to helping clients navigate complex tax issues. She has also contributed technical articles and developed training programs on research tax credits and ASC 740 uncertain tax positions.
Before joining Andersen, Misa was a senior manager at EY, where she specialized in Research Tax Credits. In addition to leading research credit engagements, she also performed tax provision audits for public and private companies, coordinated tax compliance engagements, and mentored tax professionals.
